As you can see from these articles, I believe our Daddy, God speaks to us continuously. We just have to have the ears to hear His voice. I have gone to the movies and on numerous occasions, I have been blown walked away from the theater with deeper insights and understandings, just from seeing the film. Believe it or not, some movies help me understand the heart and mind of my Big D-Daddy even better. Some movies just entertain me and make me laugh, and some movies help me release my tears.
For better or for worse, here is a list of my top ten.
- The Titanic
- The Matrix
- The Lord of the Rings – The Fellowship of the Ring
- The Lord of the Rings – The Two Towers
- The Lord of the Rings – The Return of the King
- Remember the Titans
- The Hurricane
- The Lion King
- The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
- Mr. Holland’s Opus
When you look at that list as a whole; wow, it certainly is diverse. Isn’t it? What a range of genres. It may even cause you to ask why these are my favorite movies. And that, my friend, is a GREAT question – for a different day. I think more than anything I just want to get you thinking about the fact that sometimes movies can open your heart to hear from God in a new and fresh way. After all, if a picture is worth a thousand words, how many words would a movie be worth? LOL.
Let’s take Mr. Holland’s Opus for example. When this movie was released, I was a transitional point in my life. I had just gotten back from Belarus. I had seen firsthand what the life of a missionary was like – and I loved it. I had worked as a nanny for many children below the age of 5 – and I loved that too. I was at a crossroads and I was asking myself what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. A friend of mine knew that I was dealing with this questions, so she asked me if I wanted to go see a movie. We were both fans of Richard Dreyfuss so we decided to go see this new movie. The movie itself was really good, but by the time the ending came, I was sobbing. I knew that I knew that I knew I wanted to teach again. I saw the impact Mr. Holland had on so many children, and I knew that was part of what I was created to do. The very next day, I jumped in my car and drove back to UCPS and went to talk to my very good friend, Kevin Wimberly, and he offered me a job on the spot. And…the…rest…as…they…say…is…history. 🙂
So, today as you take the time to BeLoved Completely, ask God to start opening your ears to hear His voice in fresh new ways. You will be astonished at all that He will show you.
