Be instant in season, and out of season 2 Timothy 4:2
Can you remember a pivotal moment in your life? You know one of the biggies that changed your life forever. These moments can be few and far between, but they have the potential to leave a mark on our hearts and minds that last a lifetime. They have the potential to change us; hopefully for the better. Well, today I want to share with you one of those moments that happened to one of my best friends.
Several years ago I was eating brunch with her and we immediately began to talk shop. My friend is a teacher too and she is equally as passionate about working with kids. While she enjoys teaching the curriculum, she loves imparting vision and passion. Well, one day, the superintendent “happened” to come around to see what was going on at the school. He stopped by to visit with my friend. While she had his ear, she began to share what was in her heart, where she saw this program going. Before she knew it, she was asked to draw up plans to present to a committee for final approval.
Her vision had inspired the superintendent and because of that, the school system helped to complete a state of the art facility that was on the cutting edge of the agricultural community and has become a model for the county and for the state. I continue to be in awe of God’s goodness throughout this process. My friend received a vision within her heart and because she was ready when the situation presented itself, a major blessing was presented to her, her students, her school, and her community.
This reminds me of the story in Mark 11 when Jesus was hungry and went to the fig tree to see if it had figs. It had leaves, but because it wasn’t the season for figs, there weren’t any. This made Jesus curse the tree.
This story shows us the importance Jesus places on being instant in season and OUT of season. Instant means ready, prepared, (and my favorite) present. My friend has learned how to live in the moment and be present in the now. Because she was alert, prepared and ready to share what was in her heart; she was able to clearly articulate how she saw this program developing and she received her request.
So, today, it is my prayer that you will sit at the feet of Jesus and BeLoved. As you receive His love, ask Him to speak to your heart and give you a specific vision for your life. Maybe you are a stay at home mom and you begin to see yourself meeting together with other moms for tea and sharing tips on unruly children, or maybe you are overweight, and you begin to see yourself going to the gym three days a week to become fit and trim, or maybe you are an entrepreneur and you see yourself creating a business that can help people find a reasonable clothing line – whatever it is, as it begins to develop, think about it each day. Even though you can’t see it, allow it to become realer to you than what you can see, feel, taste, hear and touch. Then, I promise you, when the time is right, you will speak it and it will be done!
