When I wrote this post Living In The Age Of The Microwave I was amazed at how easy it is to get caught up in the mindset that everything has to be done quickly. We want everything right now, but, most of the time, that is not the way our Daddy, God works. He truly wants us to learn how to wait on Him.
I was talking with one of my best friends the other day and he shared with me a modern-day parable if you will. He called it the parable of the tea bag. Chuckle if you must, but please take in the depth of meaning behind it. 🙂
Asian cultures have long used tea as a source of physical healing. Its properties can cure things from insomnia to digestion issues. The power lies in the steeping.
When you make tea, you first boil the water and then you place the bag into the hot water. Technically if you place the tea into the water and leave it there for thirty seconds, you have created ‘tea.’ The water may have changed color, but really all that it has become is…flavored water.
Then, If you steep it for a minute and a half some of the healing properties enter the water. The tea is only partially ready.
However, when you follow the directions and steep the tea for 3 – 5 minutes, you will reap the maximum reward and all the healing power will saturate the water.
Now, for those of us who have grown up in the age of instant tea, we want to put a teaspoon full of “tea” into the water, stir it, pour it over ice and be done with it. Waiting for the water to boil and then for the tea to steep requires time and discipline, but the best part – the healing part – is what is released as we wait.
I share all of this with you for several reasons. First of all, it is an awesome illustration and something that really seems to be on the heart of our Father for this community at BeLoved Completely. I believe He really wants us to learn how to wait on Him; to sit with Him and let Him direct and order our steps.
And, second of all, God is calling me into a season of “steeping” in my personal life, where I am waiting on Him and receiving all of His healing properties. In order to fully embrace this, I am going to simplify my life for the summer. I will not send another newsletter or post another article on the blog until the summer is over.
During this time I would like to encourage you to go back and read and reread our articles. Start with “What Does It Mean To BeLoved Completely.”
There are also several printables you can use as you work your way through the articles. You will find them under “Freebies for Reflection.” I believe you will grow in your relationship with Jesus as you use them to ponder specific points.
I look forward with great anticipation in what God wants to accomplish in our hearts this summer. Please let me know if you have any questions.
With love, Kim
