Rick Joyner, a former pastor of mine, once said, “Hurry isn’t of the devil…it IS the devil” and that phrase has always stood out in my mind. I wonder how many times we allow a sense of urgency to dictate decisions we make. We feel pressured by deadlines. We feel pressured wanting to do the right thing. We feel pressured by people demanding an answer. Sometimes pressure comes on every side.
…He sins who hastens with his feet. Proverbs 19:2
However, when we feel hurried, or driven to make a decision, we can best bet that the feeling we are experiencing is not coming from the Holy Spirit. He is always a Gentleman. He leads us, He does not drive us and make us feel pressured.
Let’s look at a shepherd’s psalm. This is a song that comes from the heart of a great shepherd, David. He shows us the heart of the greatest Shepherd.
1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Psalm 23
So, it is my prayer today that you will sit in your heavenly Father’s lap today and BeLoved Completely. As you let Him love you, ask Him if there is any part of your heart that is susceptible to being driven to make decisions. If so, ask Him why you allow that and then, let Him heal you.
Maybe you are facing a decision right now. If you are, then I encourage you to sit longer in His presence and pour out you heart. Tell Him what decision is before you and how you are feeling about it. But, don’t stop there. Listen to what He has to say about it. Then, according to Colossians 3:15 ” let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ’s] one body you were also called [to live].”
Make a dedicated decision TODAY that you will not driven any longer. You will be led, and you will be led with peace.
