As believers who are taking the time to BeLoved Completely, we are learning that there are different ways that God will speak to us. He will speak to us through His Word, the Bible. He can speak to us through some of our dreams. And He may speak to us through our desires or knowings that enable us to make right choices.
Well, today I want us to consider another way that our Daddy God speaks to us, and that is…through one another. We can hear from God and then encourage one another. Some people call this type of communication prophetic words; others call it words of wisdom or words of encouragement, and some people call it words of knowledge. To me, it doesn’t necessarily matter what it is called as long as you recognize what it is: The Creator of the Universe’s VOICE.
6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same[b] Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. 1 Corinthians 12: 6 – 11
Encourage Others by Hearing God’s Voice
Just the other day I was out in blog land visiting some of my favorite sites and I saw a most beautiful picture. It was a woman who was in a kayak and she had her hands raised in victory over her head with the paddle in her hands. The water was calm and peaceful and the trees were vibrant and green. Now, I didn’t know her from Adam, only that she was a Christian blogger, but this picture captivated me and I had an instantaneous picture of Rocky Balboa as he ran up the stairs in Philadelphia, music blaring in the background. Well, this was one of those times when I knew that I knew, I needed to share something that was on my heart. So, I began to type this message to her…This is such a beautiful picture that emanates victorious living. I immediately saw Rocky Balboa standing triumphantly at the top of his obstacle of stairs. Be encouraged that you have the grace to be an overcomer in whatever situation you may find yourself. (or something to that effect.) Immediately she got back in touch with me and said how encouraging that message was and then she told me, interestingly enough, that her name meant victory. I thought, “Cool!” and went on with the rest of my day.
There was another time when something similar happened. I sat down beside a lady that I did not know at church and had that same knowing hit me. I looked at her and said, “When I look at you I just see a beautifully woven material that is purple and it makes me think of Lydia from the Bible.” She looked at me and laughed and then said, “Hi, my name is Lydia and I am a weaver.” So, I told her to be encouraged that God KNOWS her and that He is with her.
A few days ago I was on the phone with a friend of mine. He said, “Kim when I was praying for you the other day I got the distinct impression that God is really concerned about your teeth.” I didn’t say a word, but instantly tears began to fill my eyes. He said,”Do you have some work that you need to have done?” I replied, “Not really, no. So, he prompted again, “Are you happy with your teeth?” I started crying. See, he had NO idea I had just been praying about the desire to get Invisalign or braces because I don’t like my smile. I shared with him about the prayer and he said,”God thinks you are lovely, but He sees how concerned you are about this, so He wants to take care of that for you. Braces are part of His plan.” It blew me out of the water. NO ONE but my Father in Heaven knew that.
See, He shows up on the scene and speaks to us – most of the time it is a nugget of truth for someone else and if we aren’t paying attention, we won’t even realize that it is His voice. When we don’t listen or don’t follow through with sharing those knowings, we miss out on giving someone MAJOR encouragement – and we even miss out on encouraging ourselves, that we heard God’s voice.
So, today as you take the time to sit in His presence with the desire to simply BeLoved Completely, I want you to revel in your uniqueness. There really is not anyone else just like you. Our Daddy loves you with an everlasting love and He draws you with His loving-kindness. Maybe in the afterglow of this love fest, He might put someone on your heart and speak to you something encouraging to share with him/her. It could be a mental picture, a word or phrase, a scripture or even a song. If He does, pay attention and record it here to encourage someone else.
Let Him use you to build up someone else today and then let me know about it in the comments. I would love to celebrate how He used YOU!
